This evening, Alex Kirby took us on a walk-through of the creation of award-winning jacket Arabs by Tim Mackintosh-Smith.
Alex is Senior Designer at Yale University Press (part-time), and runs his own freelance cover design business, Mister Kirby.
He began his career as a Junior Designer at Penguin Random House in 2002, before moving to Faber in 2006.
After 12 years here, he headed to Yale in 2018, launching his freelance business at the same time.
Alex works across all genres, but specialises in Fiction and Non-Fiction. His current clients include Canongate, Cassava Republic, Faber & Faber, Ikaros, Lund Humphries, Orion, PRH, Transworld and Unbound.
His covers have been shortlisted for multiple ABCD Awards and in 2020 his jackets for Arabs and True Stories & Other Essays were selected for the AUPresses Book, Jacket & Journal Show.
As well as book covers, he enjoys lecturing plus mentoring Design and Illustration students.
