Bridget will give an overview of the IPG which celebrates its 50th year in 2012 and supports around 480 members who have a combined turnover of £500m a year. She will talk about the challenges facing independent publishers and outline how she sees the future landscape of the book industry.

Alan Samson
Publishing Director of Weidenfeld & Nicolson, part of the Orion Group, Alan Samson has also worked for Michael Joseph, Macmillan, and the Macdonald Group including its later incarnations as Little, Brown and Time Warner.

One of the most highly regarded editor/publishers in the industry, Alan has had a wealth of editorial experience, predominantly in non-fiction publishing including the celebrity biography and memoir genre. His most recent success is the Keith Richards autobiography, and he has also published books on celebrities as diverse as Judi Dench, Julie Walters, Toby Young and John McEnroe. Hear his own ‘memoir’ of life as a publishing editor (including his experiences working for the notorious Robert Maxwell) and his defence of those celebrity titles which so polarise opinion in the trade.
